FLUSHING OF ANGLING RAMS
Should be done after pump has been rebuilt or if fluid is contaminated or incorrect.
1. With plow disconnected from truck, position plow with moldboard face down. (“A” frame up)
2. Connect angle hose and elbow together (or connect both hoses together).
3. Angle plow manually all the way to the right (pull “A” frame to the right).
4. Disconnect coupler. Using an extra coupler, couple opposing ends thus letting fluid come out of hose. If your unit .......has two hoses on plow, drain fluid from passenger side hose.
5. Using an empty container, (i.e. milk jug, oil bottle) place drivers side hose in bottle and manually angle plow to .......the left. This forces old oil out of cylinder. Let all oil drain from hose.
6. Both angling cylinders should now be empty. - See below if fluid is contaminated or incorrect.
7. Remove extra coupler that was installed in step 4.
8. Reinstall plow on truck and correctly connect hoses to pump.
9. Make sure correct amount of fluid is in pump.
10. Raise plow 2 inches off ground.
11. Using control in truck, angle plow left and right a few times to refill cylinders. (See www.plowpumpservice.com ......for a remote switch harness for a "one-man-operation" for Meyer units)
12. Lower plow and recheck fluid level in pump.
If fluid in angling rams is contaminated or incorrect you can also flush them in the following manner:
Once rams are empty (step 6), take a bottle with fresh plow fluid and put drivers side hose in bottle making sure hose is submerged. Now manually angle plow to the right. This sucks the new fluid into the ram. Remove the extra couplers that were installed in step 4 and connect the angling rams together. Now manually angle the plow left and right to flush both rams. Repeat starting with step 3 above.
DRAINING FLUID FROM PUMP
Should be done before every season
For Meyer® E-47 units with drain plugs and all E-60 units
1. With ram in down position, remove filler plug from top of pump and then remove drain plug and let fluid drain out.
2. Now manually pull lift arm up to remove oil from around lift ram. Push lift arm back down.
3. Remove two filter plugs and remove and clean filters in kerosene. Collapsed filters should be replaced.
4. Refill pump using low temperature plow fluid to within 1-½" from top.
5. Operate plow up-down and left-right a few times and recheck fluid level with lift ram all the way down.
For E-47 units without drain plug
You will need an old hose, adapter and a spare female coupler
1. Purchase correct adapter.
Part #47191 if you use 5/8" wrench to remove plugs.
Part #47192 if you use 11/16" wrench to remove plugs.
2. Install female coupler on end of hose. Other end of hose can be cut off leaving it about 24" long.
3. With ram in down position, remove filler plug from top of pump and then remove plug and filter that is closest to ......the valve body.
4. Install adapter with male coupler into this filter hole.
5. Connect hose with female end of coupler to the adapter and hold other end in empty bottle.
6. Have a partner operate the pump from inside the truck. (See www.plowpumpservice.com for a "one-man-
......operation" using remote switch harness). Fluid will be expelled into the bottle.
CAUTION: Do not run pump for an extended amount of time without fluid in it.
7. Now manually pull lift arm up to remove oil from around lift ram. Repeat step 6.
8. Push lift arm back down.
9. Remove other plug and filter and clean both in kerosene. Collapsed filters should be replaced.
10. Refill pump using low temperature plow fluid to within 1-½" from top.
11. Operate plow up-down and left-right a few times and recheck fluid level with lift ram all the way down.
NOTE:
- If your unit has never been serviced or has the incorrect fluid in it, it should be rebuilt to insure that all old fluid is out. See www.plowpumpservice.com
- E-47 units hold about ¾ of a quart of fluid. E-60 units hold about 1-¾ quarts
- Angling rams when emptied hold an additional ½ quart.
